Creative Walks

Nurturing connection, creative thinking and mental wellbeing through a combination of time outdoors, gentle exercise and social interaction.

An experience for creatives and the general public. The routes are relatively short, the emphasis being on the journey taken rather than the destination. A process of looking, listening, responding individually and collectively and sharing time together, uniquely designed and guided by a local creative.

You can book your place on a walk on our Eventbrite booking page. Tickets are by donation. We are a not-for-profit organisation. All proceeds go towards funding for our activities and events, cultivating creative communities throughout the Forest of Dean.

If you are unable to join a Creative Walk you are very welcome to join the group at the end of the walks at the café where you will be updated with Canopy’s activities and able to exchange information with others. Please book a place beforehand if possible.

Thank you to everyone who has attended past walks.

Please subscribe to our newsletter to receive updates about future events.

Each walk is carefully researched by the leader/artist so participants are encouraged to stop to observe, record, photograph, listen or consider a particular feature. Numerous approaches are offered to enable individuals to make a personal response visually or in words. The aim is to demonstrate various starting points which can be developed by participants later.

It is not about distance, but looking and listening reflecting and remembering, some stories, some mark making, measuring what it feels like and maybe a ‘yellow swing’.

At the end of the circular walk we share work, ideas and a coffee/sandwich at a nearby café.

Canopy provides:

  • A note book
  • A pen
  • Crayons
  • Viewfinder
  • Visual record/evaluation

Participants should:

  • Wear suitable clothing and footwear
  • Bring some money for sandwich/hot drink
  • Try to be ‘hands free’ so use a backpack
