Newent Festival Discussion

Canopy met with members of the local community of Newent and arts organisations at The Secret Gallery on Thursday 4^th August.  The aim of the meeting was to share with colleagues the concept of an arts festival for Newent next Spring.  Over the last year Canopy has been meeting with Chris Howley the Mayor of Newent to discuss the possibility of working towards a festival to celebrate creativity and to bring artists, arts organisations and the local communities in and around Newent for a day of joyful events and opportunities. Ideas range from a ‘Landscape Artist of the Day’ Competition by the Lake in the Park, to a massive Parade through the town launching the event, to performances and workshops.  Multiple venues from the town Library, St Mary’s Church. The Market Cross, The Memorial Hall, The Secret Gallery and The Hive Recycling Centre may be involved. Canopy hopes to engage with as many local arts groups, artists and interested individuals over the next few months to make this idea a reality.
