Forest Showcase Food Festival

Canopy had a great day at the Forest of Dean’s food festival in early October! This is a great event that happens annually right in the middle of the Forest, in the grounds of the historic Speech House showcasing creative producers from The Forest of Dean and surrounding areas alongside invited traders who had something that ‘little bit different’ to bring to the Festival. There was a whole array of producers like cheese mongers, bakers, brewers and baristas with chocolatiers, butchers, winemakers and ice cream makers. The event was a resounding success thanks to over 100 top local and artisan producers with interesting talks, parent & child cookery lessons, children’s activities, top chef demos, live music, arts & crafts sessions, making it a lovely foodie family day out.

Canopy was just one of those creative groups providing entertainment.

We were given a fantastic plot right at the entrance so visitors just couldn’t avoid us! We spent the day telling everyone what we are all about which is to bring artists, arts organisations and the community together to enjoy the amazingly broad spectrum of local arts! Telling people about all the amazing things that are going on! Not that easy in a rural area,The festival had over 2,000 visitors and we introduced ourselves to most of them.

During the day we had various events, ranging from Poetry reading to performance and comedy, drawing a crowd which went down so well that that we almost blocked the entrance! OH Crumbs cabaret juggled a few words and stories. Maggie Clutterbuck Forest bard, Pam Singer local lyric, Walt ‘ambling’ Williams,& Leonard Custard, all contributed to the hubris. Darren Hoskins performed extracts from His cranky collection. Darren has adapted the Cranky -a North American Storytheatre and is building a series of local stories most recently about the pollution of the river Wye. Oh Crumbs is a monthly spoken word event running live and online welcomes all writers/performers and audiences and a member of the Canopy Network

Looking forward to next one in 2023!
